Off Again for a Christmas Camino

 Off  Again!! 

This time my plan is to walk the Camino Francés from León, over the mountains, to Santiago de Compostela.  On the way it is my intention to photograph the many nativity scenes that I will see in the bars and churches, and ultimately to see the large one in Santiago.  

I am hopeful that I will also be able to walk the Camino Inglés, between Christmas and New Year, and then, after three kings day, I plan to walk from Barcelos in Portugal back to Santiago.  Of course, this will be dependent on the weather.  I am not afraid to walk in wet weather, but if it is torrential rain it may present difficulties.  Likewise I am not sure about snow.  Freshly fallen snow is, for me, potentially dangerous as there are no shadows, and potholes and rocks hidden beneath the snow present unknown hazards.  

Whatever happens will be, as always, an adventure!

Two days of walking

It is cold, and, so far, often misty, sometimes such a heavy mist that I have had to resort to using the umbrella. Today the forecast was for rain, and so I began the day with my rain pants on.  However, the rain didn't eventuate, and I was spared having to don my raincoat.                               Everything was seen through misty eyes. Back to the beginning, and yesterday, where I managed  to walk 22 kilometres to Villar de Mazarife.  I had planned to stay in a different albergue this time but it wa closed for the night and so I went to Albergue Jesús where I had stayed twice before. The ascent and descent from Rabanal del Camino.

For some reason all the photos posted have disappeared from this post - i will continue to try and fix it as i have unexpected time on my hands. Check back later to see if i have been successful! Yesterday dawned cold - but dry. The light on the clouds, on the buildings as I left the village, and on the vegetation was very beautiful. The day began with no mist, but as the day progressed, each time I looked back, I could see a bank of misty cloud stalking me. I was very relieved that it didn't catch me until I was off the mountain.  Rabanal del Camino.  Leaving Rabanal del Camino.   The path heading up to Foncebadón.  There was no breakfast to be had in Rabanal, the hotel owners deciding that was the day they were going to sleep in! I was told that it would be possible to get breakfast in Fancebadón, but it wasn't to be! Thus the food for nearly the whole day was muesli bars!  Being chased by the clouds! The Camino Inglés

                                                                        Back again to fill in the gaps from the last post. It might have sounded like I spent a long time in Santiago, which is sort of true, but not completely, as between Christmas and Three Kings Day I managed to walk the Camino Inglés, sometimes in fine weather, but a good half of it in the pouring rain. This Camino derives its name from the fact that English pilgrims would cross by boat and latterly on a ferry, and walk, either from Ferrol, or from A Coruña. These days, to qualify for a compostela, pilgrims must walk from Ferrol – unless they have walked 25 kilometres on a recognised route in their own country, in which case they can begin a A Coruña. I began in Ferrol, but did a side trip to A Coruña also.
